The University of Florence’s Novoli Campus Hosts SMURF’s 3rd General Assembly to Shape the Future of Forest Ownership within Europe

We are thrilled to announce the 3rd General Assembly, set to take place from January 14th to 16th, 2025, at the University of Florence (Italy). This event marks a significant step forward for the SMURF project as it works towards achieving its ambitious goals for 2025.

This pivotal gathering will bring together 10 partners from six different countries to collaborate over three intensive days. The agenda includes a comprehensive review of the project’s progress, engaging workshops, and strategic discussions focused on the launching of an open second call for cascade funding and the creation of a dedicated network for practitioners of forest owners’ associations. Additionally, participants will plan for the upcoming 1st European Conference on Small Forest Holdings, scheduled for May 20-22th, 2025, in Rome, and take part in a field trip to the captivating Amiata landscape.

Key Outcomes Expected from the General Assembly:

  • Action Plan for 2025: Partners will define next steps across all Work Packages to ensure alignment and efficiency in achieving project goals.
  • Second Call for Cascade Funding Program: Detailed actions will be outlined to support the upcoming funding opportunities. Read about the 1st Call.
  • 1st Conference of Private Forest Holdings: The meeting will prioritise the planning and confirmation of the organisational committee for the 1st European Conference on Small Forest Holdings scheduled for May 2025 in Rome. Discover more here.

The General Assembly aligns with SMURF’s mission to enhance the economic viability of forest ownership and provide robust support to small-scale forest holders across Europe. By addressing these challenges, the project contributes to broader European strategies such as the Horizon Europe framework, the EU Green Deal, and the Forest Strategy.
